![]() ![]() It's a 1983 production year as you've already determined. I don't think you have a special model of BT-99 (unless there's a lot of engraving/inlays that you forgot to tell us about!) As to why your gun is marked with the model / date code after the serial # instead of before, I don't know.To answer your main question. Hence while your gun may have been made in 1970, it was considered a 1971 gun as that was when it first became available to the public, and is stamped as such.ġ969 was the year Browning began the practice of beginning the rifles serial number with the one letter, to identify the model, then two digit date to identify the year, followed by the rest of the serial #. FN started production in 1970, but did not release the guns for sale until 1971, as Browning wanted to ensure they had enough of them on hand for their release to the public. Except for the 50 sold, the TRW prototypes were later destroyed. In 1966, 250 original prototypes were manufactured in the USA by TRW, with 50 released for sale and testing by the public, and the rest sent to FN in Belgium for the factory to make the tooling for later production. I promised when I die it will go to one of my daughters who hunts or granddaughters in her memory. 308 BLR made in Japan but it was stolen and ruined. I have admired the gun since I was a kid growing up. I think I will use it this year or until I kill a deer with it. It is in pristine condition with a Leopold 2-7 scope. LOL Just curious if anybody knows the real story of the backwards serial numbers?Īny way it is just an oddity to me and the gun was bought brand new and used by his wife very little. But the person a t Browning was not sure. ![]() That these pre-1971 guns might have possible had the serial numbers reversed. He said Browning told him the gun was made in 1969 but not sold till 1971 when Browning actually put them on gun store shelves. This rifle is serial # then K71 (K71 meaning BLR 1971) I saw on line one other person had the same issue. Everything says the serial number should be K71 then serial number. 243 BLR made in Belgium by a very dear friend. Hello, question for any BLR fans out there. ![]()
